Hobcaw Barony

The Belle W. Baruch Foundation is a non-profit organization that manages Hobcaw Barony, a 16,000-acre wildlife refuge and historic estate. Originally granted as royal land in 1718 and later divided into 14 plantations, the property became the winter retreat of financier and presidential adviser Bernard Baruch. His daughter, Belle Baruch, gradually reacquired the entire tract and established a foundation to preserve it for research and education in forestry, marine biology, and wildlife conservation, in partnership with South Carolina colleges and universities. Today, visitors can explore the land through guided tours, educational programs, and the on-site discovery center—open year-round to the public.
